This training focuses on tackling hateful speech or behaviours in real and lasting ways. We come from the premise that hate and discrimination will not be changed by taking a punitive approach. The training gives tools to the youth worker to build their self-awareness, learn the principles of compassionate communication and adopt a needs-based approach to bring about lasting change.
Youth organisations can find it difficult to report on their inclusive youth work practice: “What should it look like?”; “Have we done enough?”; “Have we fallen short in some areas?”; “How do we do inclusion work in the context of other demands?”; “What are the key things we need to know to meet the key needs of minority and marginalised young people?”
On day one the course follows the structure of the ‘Intercultural Awareness and Cultural Competency’ training day. On the second day participants will develop practical skills to engage with young people and volunteers in a culturally diverse setting, as well as planning and delivering their own session on Interculturalism and inclusion.
This course is designed to introduce participants to the theory and methodologies required to develop and maintain cross-cultural relationships in youth work. It will assist participants to engage with young people and volunteers from diverse cultures.
This two-hour session will give a general introduction to intercultural and inclusive youth work, how to engage with minority ethnic and other minority groups in a youth work setting and identifying and overcoming some barriers to such involvement.
This course will introduce participants to the skills and resources needed in planning effective and sustainable intercultural youth programmes. It will offer guidelines on recruitment and good practice and will empower youth workers to take action towards developing a culturally inclusive youth service.
This course is designed to introduce participants to the theory of racism, sexism and homophobia. It will focus on understanding stereotypes and prejudices, different types of discrimination and how to identify and tackle incidents.
This training course from NYCI will introduce participants to the use of a newly developed Diversity Toolkit 'Access All Areas' for carrying out a diversity assessment on youth projects. It will demonstrate how to develop an action plan based on identified gaps in service.
