Working remotely initially, then part-time at NYCI Offices (3 Montague St, Dublin 2) with out-of-office work and travel throughout Ireland

Role and Purpose
The Programme Specialist will develop the capacity of the Youthreach sector to design and deliver 21st Century STEAM education and public engagement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- To develop STEAM educational management resources and curriculum (aligned with QQI Level 3. QQI Level 4 and Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) of the National Qualifications Framework) with staff and young people from three pilot centres.
- To work with CASTeL (Centre for the Advancement of STEAM Teaching and Learning, Dublin City University) to develop, deliver and coordinate a continuous professional development program for Youthreach staff.
- To support the evaluation of new STEAM curriculum piloted in three Youthreach centres.
- To develop and deliver a programme of extra-curricular STEAM engagement events and resources for the wider Youthreach sector.
- To develop and implement a marketing and communications strategy for the project.
- To work with partners – CASTeL, the National Youthreach Coordinator (Department for Education and Skills), Ballymun Youthreach, Shanagolden Youthreach and Tuam Youthreach, and a range of service providers – in the delivery of this project.
To identify progression routes to STEAM careers for learners in three pilot localities and broker links between Youthreach centres and STEAM industries and apprenticeship opportunities. - To remain abreast of best practice and innovation in STEAM education and public engagement.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Attainments
Essential:
- Education to 3rd level standard in a STEAM-related discipline.
- Post-graduate or other relevant professional qualification relating to STEAM education, curriculum development or professional development training.
Desirable:
- Irish Teaching Council registration.
Experience
Essential:
- STEAM education or public engagement experience in non-formal, alternative or formal education settings (5 plus years’ experience).
- Post qualification working in curriculum development, capacity development or professional development in non-formal, alternative or formal education settings (5 plus years’ experience).
- Conducting needs assessment, evaluation or research to inform service development (5 plus years’ experience).
- Building positive relationships and delivering collaborative projects with a diverse range of stakeholders (5 plus years’ experience).
Desirable:
- Developing and implementing marketing and communication strategies for educational resources or other relevant products and services.
- Developing online resources and programmes of learning.
Knowledge, Skills and Aptitude
Essential:
- Policy and practice relevant to the Youthreach and STEAM engagement sectors.
- Principles, pedagogies and practices of 21st century STEAM education.
- QQI Level 3, QQI Level 4 and LCA curriculum development and assessment protocols and procedures.
- Organisational and project coordination skills.
- Diplomatic with strong negotiation skills and the ability to build positive relationships within a diverse range of teams and partnerships.
- Skills in undertaking needs assessment, evaluation, research or in collecting and using data about learners to support progress and raise standards.
- Results driven with a focus on the development of excellent practice and creative, solutions-focused problem solving.
- Ability to work flexibly and autonomously and to manage a complex workload in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
- IT skills and willingness to develop them further.
- Full valid driving licence and a capacity to travel as part of the job.
- Strong passion for equality and inclusion.
- Commitment to the aims of the National Youth Council of Ireland.
