Voluntary Service International is the Irish branch of Service Civil International (SCI), a worldwide peace movement that began in 1920. We work for peace, solidarity and social justice through volunteering and associated activities. We arrange volunteer projects in Ireland for Irish and international volunteers and send volunteers on projects to our branches and partners worldwide both on short-term (1-3 weeks) and long-term (up to 12 months). All our projects are with non-profit/community and voluntary organisations and we work in solidarity with local communities. We work with people of all ages and our focus is on young people. We also work through the EU -funded Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps programmes to arrange volunteering and non-formal learning opportunities for young people and those who work with them. Inclusion is important to us and we work on increasing inclusion through volunteering.
VSI work on the following programmes:
- International Volunteer Projects (IVPs): Each year volunteers (18+) can choose from over 700 short-term group International Volunteer Projects (1-3 weeks) in over 70 countries worldwide. Because of the pandemic, these projects are now ONLINE and they are an amazing way to meet and connect with people from all around the world and to continue working towards peace and social justice, all from the comfort of your own home! However, in-person IVPs will resume in early 2022.
- European Solidarity Corps (ESC): A special EU-funded volunteer programme for 18-30 year olds. VSI is an accredited sending organisation. You can volunteer in many countries both within and outside the EU, short-term or long-term. Volunteers receive free accommodation, food, insurance and monthly ‘pocket’ money.’ The only thing volunteers might have to pay for is a small part of their travel costs.
