YOUth & Water Consultation

June 26 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm IST

The National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI) and the National Water Forum are inviting young people (18-30) to take part in an engaging consultation to explore water quality in Ireland and discuss how water-related communications with young people can be improved.

NYCI represents youth on the National Water Forum, Ireland’s statutory body that advises the Government on water policy. This consultation is a pivotal opportunity for young voices to shape the conversation around one of Ireland’s most vital resources.

If you have any queries, please contact Eimear Manning at eimear@nyci.ie.

We want your perspectives on:

  • The quality of our natural waters
  • Communicating water-related issues
  • Youth engagement for water protection

No prior knowledge on these topics is needed in advance of this consultation. An informative workshop will be included at the start of the day for all participants.

We wish to capture your perspectives/opinions whether you know little or a lot about water in Ireland.

Why do we want your perspectives?

The Water Forum is a group that provides advice directly to Minister James Browne about everything to do with water in Ireland. We are made up of 27 members representing 16 sectors including, agriculture, angling, business, community and voluntary, domestic water consumers, education, environment, fisheries, forestry, recreation, rivers trusts, rural water, social housing, tourism, trade unions and youth.

However, youth is a new sector that joined The Water Forum and we want to ensure that young people’s perspectives and priorities are taken directly to Minister Browne in a meaningful and transparent way. In order to understand your priorities, we need to understand your experiences and opinions. With this consultation, we strive to create a safe and inclusive space for you to share your perspectives and needs with us.

We hope that this consultation will spark a new, collaborative relationship between young people, The Water Forum, and thus the advice provided to the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage of Ireland.

If you have any additional questions on how we will (anonymously) use your perspectives, don’t hesitate to email eimear@nyci.ie.
