Working with young Asylum-Seekers and young people in Direct Provision

DESCRIPTION

This half day webinar is organised by NYCI in collaboration with the Irish Refugee Council. The aim of the half day is to support youth services and voluntary clubs and groups to develop your work with young Asylum Seekers.

The Irish Refugee Council will be giving an input on the International Protection System and the legal journey that young people and their families go through, outlining some key moments in an asylum application process and explaining some of the terminology.

We will also look specifically at trauma and how the importance for trauma informed practice working with young people seeking international protection.

There will be inputs on the unique contribution youth work can make supporting young people to navigate the immigration system and deal with challenges of life in Direct Provision and transitions young people have to make.

  • Where youth work meets International Protection; A youth worker perspective on supporting young Asylum seekers – Natasha Muldoon (Irish Refugee Council)
  • Young persons perspective on what is good youth work practice and why it’s so important. – Young Person from County Longford Youth Service
