Wellbeing means something different to each of us. One thing is certain though, it matters. How do we support our own sense of wellbeing in the spaces where we work, create and connect? And how do we nurture the wellbeing of young people in youth work settings?

Join the National Youth Arts Programme and the National Youth Health Programme for the ‘Creative Well’ Summer School to explore the powerful connection between creativity and wellbeing in youthwork spaces. Our weekend retreat at the University of Galway will support you to deepen your understanding of social and emotional wellbeing, to participate in visual arts, eco-arts and creative group work activities that nurture your own sense of wellbeing and to explore how creative practice can support the wellbeing of the young people you work with.

Social and emotional wellbeing shapes how we think, feel, and relate to ourselves and others. It influences how we navigate everyday challenges, manage stress, and build meaningful connections. Creativity and imagination are recognised as one of the seven key outcomes for personal development within the UBU framework. They are closely linked to young people’s sense of wellbeing, offering ways for self-expression, confidence-building, emotional awareness and connection with others. Art has also been used throughout the ages as a mindfulness practice allowing us to focus our attention on the present moment, immersing ourselves in the activity, helping to quiet the mind and anchor our awareness.

So much to explore! Join us as we weave creativity and imagination into our youth work practice to support our own wellbeing and that of the young people we work with.

What can I expect?

This Summer School residential will be an experiential and immersive weekend, where participants will actively engage in creative processes through hands-on activities and group work. Expect lots of visual arts, eco-arts, creative activities, group activities and discussions! Youth workers will have the opportunity to reconnect with their own wellbeing and creativity in a supportive environment, share experiences with peers and reflect on how to facilitate creative spaces that support young people’s wellbeing.

Join us in Galway this June! Enhance your creative youth work practice and take the opportunity to step back, reflect and reconnect!
