Summer School 2025: Fostering Change – Inclusive Youth Arts Practice

June 6 @ 10:30 am - June 8 @ 4:00 pm IST

Fostering Change Summer School Image

Are you interested in the role creativity can play in building inclusive practice with young people?

Join the NYCI Summer School from June 6- 8 to explore creative ways to develop inclusive youth work practice with young people from minority backgrounds!

Working with NYCI staff and artists Raphael Olympio and Chelsea Canavan, we will explore what we mean by inclusion and integration in youth work settings and engage with spoken word, printmaking and creative word-play (typography) to create a journey for participants through the themes of:

  • Looking In: exploring identity and self-awareness
  • Looking out: listening to, facilitating and amplifying the voices of young people from minority backgrounds through youth arts
  • Fostering Change: using youth arts as a tool to advocate for change

The NYCI Summer School will place a sense of community at the heart of the residential experience, supporting us to learn from each other and work together to foster change in our own practice working with young people.

What to expect?

Expect lots of practical activities, with workshops exploring spoken word, printmaking and creative word-play, group experiences and discussions!

The immersive summer school experience provides space for participants to benefit from a supportive environment where they can reflect critically on inclusive practice, explore their own creativity, share experiences with peers and integrate their learning into their own work with young people.

Participants will experience content and access resources that can be adapted into practice with young people in their own projects.

If you have any queries, please contact Rhona Dunnett, National Youth Arts Programme Manager at rhona@nyci.ie
