DESCRIPTION

Evaluating outcomes in a global youth work context is vital in measuring social change and showing the change effect of the work to a wider audience.   We want to create an opportunity to think about evaluation work and how global youth work programmes might contribute to understanding how change making happens in practice.

A legacy focus moves beyond the idea of ‘impact’ and looks to the future with an understanding that work happening today can plant seeds of change that have a lasting and enduring impact. This is particularly important in the context of the core youth work principles, which are informed by a commitment to challenging inequality and to effecting lasting outcomes.

The push is to continue thinking through how our sector can approach evaluation in a way that is truly contextualised and inclusive of different voices and approaches towards socially just outcomes.

The challenge is to think imaginatively about evaluation –to broaden its definition and recognise that youth programmes working with a development education lens, address complex, human issues that require a broad awareness of inclusive evaluation methods and objectives.

The opportunity lies in creating an approach to evaluation that is consistent with a youth development approach and with a broader commitment to challenging inequality in local and global contexts.

Please join us and our panel to consider how to think about using data to create stories of change and to share these to influence wider change in key areas such as:

  • youth development
  • developments in the youth sector
  • policy actors in this area
  • addressing global inequality
