Responding to Disclosures Training 8th of April 2025

April 8 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm IST

Due to the level of interest, NYCI’s National Child Protection Programme has decided to run our Responding to Disclosures training again! We would like to invite you to attend our free half day training on Responding to Disclosures, in person, at the Carmelite Community Centre in Dublin on Tuesday 8th April 2025!

We are inviting youth workers, volunteers, safeguarding officers, DLPs, deputy DLPS, managers, and anyone else with safeguarding responsibilities in your youth work organisation to attend. We have 20 places available and  tea, coffee and refreshments will be provided on the day.

Disclosure is a process where children/young people start to share their experiences of abuse or harm, and it can take place over a period of time. It takes a lot of courage, and they need to have someone they can trust who will believe them and get them help once they share this information. As a youth worker, a child/young person may come to view you as a trusted adult in their life, and they may decide to disclose to you that they are experiencing harm or abuse. There are many ways in which a child/young person may disclose that they are experiencing harm. They disclose directly or indirectly through other indicators, so it’s important that we are able to recognise when we might be receiving a disclosure that something is wrong. This training is run with a small number of participants so we can examine and role-play in small groups how you might recognise and respond to a disclosure from a child or young person.
