Recognising and Responding to Peer Abuse

September 17 @ 10:30 am - 3:00 pm IST

Join the National Child Protection Programme team in person for Children First Awareness Week! At this in-person event we will focus on the issue of Peer Abuse and instances when young people engage in harmful sexual behaviour. This event will take place on Wednesday 17th September 2025 at Wood Quay Venue, Dublin.

The National Child Protection Programme is delighted to welcome youth workers, volunteers, DLPs, safeguarding officers and anyone else who is interested to our event discussing Peer Abuse as part of the Children First Awareness Week 2025 Campaign.

We will be launching our new resource to support youth workers, volunteers and their organisations in responding to this issue, and look forward to hearing from both NIAPP (National Interagency Prevention Programme) and CARI who will talk to us about the impact of harmful sexual behaviour and sexual abuse on young people who carry out this type of harm, and young people who experience this type of harm.

We hope this event will provide attendees with an opportunity to learn more about this issue, including the impact of harmful sexual behaviour on young people, how to respond, the role of youth work organisations in managing risks, and how we can safeguard the welfare of all young people involved.

Tea, coffee and a light lunch will be provided on the day.

If you have any queries, please contact Olwyn Lyons, National Child Protection Programme Administrator (olwyn@nyci.ie).
