There is a strong connection between wellbeing and planetary health. As part of the NYHP programme of work, we support organisations to make the most of spaces and opportunities within or around their settings to engage young people, staff, and volunteers in activities that promote planetary health — whether that’s developing allotments, planting flowers, or other forms of sustainable growing. With that, NYHP have partnered with Grow It, Ireland to facilitate a one-day workshop.
The GIY Professional Retreat at GROW HQ is an immersive professional development experience for youth workers who support children and young people.
The retreat focuses on using the garden as a clear, practical engagement space where young people can connect, learn, and participate rain, hail or shine. As more organisations look to outdoor spaces to support youth wellbeing while meeting planetary health and sustainability goals, this programme explores how food growing, cooking, and place-based learning can bring young people together in meaningful ways.
Through hands-on activities, shared reflection, and time in the garden, participants will experience how outdoor environments can become welcoming spaces for curiosity, skills, and connection with nature. The garden becomes a catalyst for resilience, curiosity, and connection; a living space that opens “wellness windows” into our world.
