Event 2 – Tuesday 23rd – Working for YOUth? Global Youth Work Seminar

November 23, 2021 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm GMT

11am to 12:30pm – online seminar

The recent effects of COVID 19 shows high levels of youth unemployment in Ireland. Education, training, and employment outcomes amongst young people in the Global North are evidently exacerbated by policies that fall short in addressing structural barriers and in reducing inequality. Many of these structural issues pre-date the global pandemic.

Meanwhile, young people in the Global South are impacted by a more persistent precariousness and less access to regular wage and salaried jobs. The economic legacy of colonialism, as well as the accumulation and exploitation patterns of the neoliberal era, including trade and tariff rules imposed by the Global North have made matters worse.

Can a global youth work lens offer us a way to consider the experiences of young people in the Global North and Global South as political subjects from which we can learn.

Join us as we unpack this topic with experts in the field of youth work and youth unemployment.
