DESCRIPTION

This is NYCI’s 2-day Train the Trainer Course in the NYCI Child Protection Awareness Programme (CPAP). NYCI authorises select organisations to avail of the Train the Trainer model in order to deliver the CPAP exclusively within the nominated organisation.

This Train the Trainer course is for agreed organisations only, who have nominated a trainer(s) who meets the NYCI Trainer Competencies Criteria.

This training is provided by the NYCI Child Protection Programme.

Attendance for the entire 2 days is required.

Trainer Competencies Criteria

Trainers will have completed the Child Protection Awareness Programme training within their own organisation and completed Tusla’s Children First e-learning on www.tusla.ie before attending this training.

Ideally, trainers will come from a professional background and/or experience of training, child protection and working using a ‘child-centred approach’.  The competencies required by Child Protection Trainers to deliver the child protection awareness programme must be met in order to attend. These are as follows (not an exhaustive list):

 

  • Be nominated by their organisation to attend and fulfil the role of CPAP trainer
  • Have a background and in-depth experience in training delivery
  • Have an excellent knowledge of child protection policy at national level, including legislation, guidance and Children First
  • Agree to deliver the Child Protection Awareness Programme within their own organisation (exclusively)
  • Demonstrate how they fulfil the competencies required to be a child protection trainer (see below)

  • Ability to complete a ‘Training Needs Analysis’ and apply the outcomes

Knowledge

  • Relevant legislation pertaining to the awareness programme
  • Children First Act 2015 and Children First National Guidance 2017 and related child safeguarding legislation
  • Statutory roles and responsibilities
  • Reporting procedures (internal and external to the organisation)
  • Awareness of the role and contact details for the Designated Liaison Person (and deputy DLP) and the relevant statutory services
  • Knowledge of the organisation (role, ethos, mission, organisational policies)
  • Organisational Child Safeguarding Statement and Child Protection Policy
  • Organisational recruitment and selection procedures, including Garda vetting
  • Equality and inclusiveness – as relevant to the particular target group

EXTRA INFORMATION

Covid-19 Measures: Please Read Before Booking

Due to Covid-19 there can be no guarantee of the training going ahead- confirmation will be provided in the 24 hours prior to training. NYCI will issue refunds to participants in the event that NYCI has to cancel or reschedule this training. For all other circumstances, please review NYCI’s Cancellation Policy prior to booking.

This is a scheduled face-to-face training, delivered in person at the Camden Court Hotel. This training will only take place in person, in line with the Government public guidance at the time. Currently, there is no confirmation of when face-to-face training in the youth work sector (Level 2 Guidance) can recommence. NYCI has provisionally scheduled this training with the view to evaluate the public guidance in the weeks preceding the training. In the event that face-to-face training cannot take place, this training will be rescheduled to a later date- please note this training will not be moved online. NYCI will give as much notice as possible for any updates about the status of the training, in accordance with the public guidance available at the time.

NYCI is committed to taking the necessary precautions to maximise the health and safety of the training participants and trainers. Your decision to attend a face-to-face training must take into account all Government rules and guidance, your individual circumstances, and we ask that you only attend with the approval of your Organisation’s Senior Management.

Due to Covid-19 circumstances, we regret that we are unable to provide food and refreshments on the day. Ample time will be provided for you for breaks, to get lunch in the locality or you may bring your own and eat your lunch in the training room or outside (hotel rules and regulations under Covid-19)- there are many shops and public spaces in the vicinity.
