Capturing Young Voices workshop image

Join the National Youth Arts Programme and artist Valerie Haslam for a creative, hands-on training event designed to help you develop the skills, confidence and tools to support young people in expressing themselves! Together we’ll explore how young people can express their ideas, stories and opinions through the power of podcasting, visual storytelling and other creative activities.

Podcasting and visual storytelling can be a vibrant, youth-centred arts practice that nurtures self-expression, creativity and confidence. In this accessible workshop, you’ll discover how to guide young people in capturing and sharing their own voices — literally — through engaging and easy-to-use digital tools.

We know you have lots on your plate at the end of November! So you can book to participate in a way that suits you best by registering for the full-day workshop or the morning workshop only:

Morning Workshop  10am – 1pm:  Creative Voices & Podcasting with lunch provided at 1pm

Full-Day Workshop 10am – 4pm: Creative Voices & Podcasting (morning) & Visual Storytelling (afternoon) with lunch provided at 1pm

What to Expect!

You can expect to:

– Take part in interactive and creative exercises to explore how young people can express themselves through storytelling, interviews, discussions and creative writing.

– Learn practical ways to help young people find their voice, whether through narrative, poetry, dialogue, spoken-word expression or visual storytelling.

– Understand different types of podcasts and how to plan meaningful, youth-led content.

– Gain hands-on experience using simple mobile or tablet technology to record, edit and publish podcasts & other visual mediums.

– Exchange ideas and approaches with other youth workers to design inspiring projects that amplify young people’s voices and perspectives.

You will leave with:

– The confidence to support young people in developing their communication, digital and creative skills.

– A clear understanding of how podcasting can be used as a participatory arts practice to engage young people in exploring issues that matter to them.

– A practical plan and set of easy-to-use tools to get started with your own youth podcasting project.
