Reporting to
Equality and Intercultural Programme Manager, National Youth Council of Ireland.
Location
Official place of work is 3 Montague Street, D 2. However, working remotely is encouraged with meetings occasionally at NYCI offices (3 Montague St, Dublin 2). Out-of-office work and travel on a regional and national basis is required.
Hours of Work
Full time 35 hours per week (some flexibility will be required, such as evening/weekend work).
Duration
Fixed term: to 31st December 2026 (extension of contract is subject to funding).
Remuneration
Depending on experience €38,029 – €44,344
Annual Leave
27 days per annum pro rata

Role and Purpose
The Equality and Intercultural Programme Officer will work as part of the NYCI Equality and Intercultural Programme to collaborate and engage with NYCI’s membership and the youth work sector, to build their and deepen their understanding of intercultural and inclusive youth work practice.
This is a varied role requiring good organisation, planning and multi-tasking skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills, facilitation, resource development and training experience. This is a specified purpose contract. The role will require face-to-face work in Ireland.
Key Responsibilities
Work as an integral member of the Equality and Intercultural Programme Team to achieve our mission and play an active role in the delivery of NYCI’s Strategic Plan and meet NYCI’s objectives in relation to its intercultural, equality and inclusion work:
- Deliver a training response to the youth sector on inclusive youth work – with the Equality and Intercultural Programme staff and external trainers co-deliver our training programme on intercultural and inclusive youth work.
- Develop and update resources, write articles and web content.
- Engage youth work organisations to develop their intercultural, inclusive youth work practice, support them to meet their UBU commitments to engage with minority ethnic young people (including Travellers, Roma and young people in the international protection system), promote the value of minority ethnic-only youth spaces (alongside integrated youth work groups), and build their relationship with NYCI’s Equality and Intercultural Programme and its resources. Utilise these opportunities to build youth workers understanding of racism, racial justice, and systemic inequalities and the impact these have on minority ethnic young people’s capacity to engage in youth work.
- Ensure that the voice of minority ethnic young people (including Traveller and Roma and international protection applicants) inform policy and practice and is heard by the decision makers in their lives, including youth work managers and funders.
- Engage with the Programmes network of minority ethnic youth workers to build capacity, co-create a practice response to emerging issues, and co-create a supportive structure.
The project aims to achieve meaningful changes in practice and create safer spaces for minority ethnic young people to connect and have a greater sense of belonging.
Other duties include:
- Support the Equality and Intercultural Programme in relation to policy and advocacy activities as required.
- Complete all related administration and reporting to ensure smooth running of work, in line with programme requirements.
- Ensure NYCI’s child protection policy and safeguarding statement is implemented.

Experience/
Attributes
(Essential)
- Have a third level qualification in an intercultural, equality or community and youth work related field
- Have at least 4 years’ experience working in intercultural, equality or youth related work in a Youth Work or Voluntary and Community setting.
- Demonstrated commitment to Equity, Inclusion, Social and Racial Justice
- Experience in working in partnership directly with youth workers, youth leaders, and minority ethnic young people.
- Have experience of relationship building with a range of stakeholders.
- Experience establishing and/or supporting Networks or Committees
- Experience of planning and event organisation such as conferences, training seminars and workshops.
- Experience of devising, organising, and delivering training/Continuing Professional Development to the NGO sector – including in an online format.
- Have excellent writing skills and experience of working for publication
- Have excellent interpersonal, written communication, organisational and presentation skills.
- Have the ability to work on one’s own initiative as well as part of a team.
