Where can I access youth mental health supports, services and training in my area? A new tool launched today aims to help users answer that very question. The Youth Mental Health Signposting Tool features information on over 100 organisations that provide an array of services and supports through online platforms, phone, and face-to-face engagement.Developed by National Youth Health Programme, a partnership between NYCI, HSE and the Department of Children and Youth Affairs
The National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI) – which represents organisations working with over 380,000 young people – has launched the Youth Mental Health Signposting Tool (YMHS) today (09.05.17). The site helps users find information about supports, services and training programmes, available nationally and locally, that relate to youth mental health and self-care. It was developed by the National Youth Health Programme, a partnership between NYCI, the Health Service Executive and the Department of Children and Youth Affairs.
Rosemary Scott, NYCI Mental Health Promotion Officer said: “Mental health has been identified by young people and those working with them as the number one area of importance in the National Youth Strategy. As part of our response we have developed this fantastic YMHS tool for youth workers, young people and the wider community.”
“It brings together in one place information on over 108 organisations that provide services and supports; over 40 different mental health training programmes suitable for young people, parents, carers and those working with young people; four sources of emergency help and four national organisations with staff across the country – so it’s a really great starting point for those looking to access youth mental health supports.”
Play your part in developing this resource for all of us
“The NYCI is encouraging the public to use the site, share it with others and feedback on the content. We look forward to hearing from those who use the YMHS tool and to seeing the response as this new resource is shared,” concluded Ms Scott.
The YMHS signposting tool is available online here www.youthhealth.ie/signposts.
