Journalist and activist Una Mullally appointed as independent chair of group to oversee development of National LGBT Youth Strategy:
The National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI) – which represents organisations working with over 380,000 young people nationwide – has welcomed the announcement by Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Katherine Zappone, TD that Una Mullally is to be chairperson for the Government’s LGBT Youth Strategy.
Commenting on the appointment Mary Cunningham, Director of the National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI) said: “We congratulate Una Mullally on her appointment. Her wide ranging experience in championing equality, and her work as an LGBT rights activist and advocate will equip her very well for this important and challenging new role.
“This is an important time for young LGBT people in Ireland, with many issues still presenting a real challenge. So we look forward to working closely with Ms Mullally, and Minister Zappone and her department to support the development of the LGBT Youth Strategy. We also look forward to building on the progress made to date on the implementation of the National Youth Strategy, to ensure better outcomes for all young people in Ireland,” added Ms Cunningham.
