Congratulates Minister Fitzgerald
Welcomes appointment of Minister Flanagan to Youth Affairs portfolio
The Government has today (08.05.2014) appointed Minister Frances Fitzgerald, TD as Minister for Justice and Equality.
Commenting on the appointment Mary Cunningham, director of the National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI) said:
“We’d like to put on record our thanks to Minister Fitzgerald for her work as Minister for Children and Youth Affairs.
“In particular, Minister Fitzgerald is to be commended for the development of the National Policy Framework for Young People, her work to highlight the importance of youth work in supporting young people in Ireland, and the enactment of a constitutional amendment enshrining the rights of Children. We wish her well in her new role as Minister for Justice and Equality.”
Ms Cunningham also welcomed the appointment of Deputy Charlie Flanagan as Minister for Children:
“We congratulate the new Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Charlie Flanagan on his appointment. His wide-ranging experience, and previous tenure as his party’s spokesperson on children, will equip him very well for this important and challenging new portfolio. We look forward to working closely with Minister Flanagan and his department, to continue our work to ensure better outcomes for all young people in Ireland.”
