Week 1: Tend and Befriend
Monday
This week, we will be exploring how we might engage our ‘Soothing System’ for all those times we feel triggered throughout the week.
Or perhaps we might take a moment to ask ourselves what we need, when we feel difficulty arising. This could be the result of a never ending ‘to do’ list or a tough meeting. Can we empower ourselves with these practices?
Today we start with some very simple skills for working with our vagus nerve, or the nerve that interfaces with parasympathetic control. Why not give it a go?
What is the vagus nerve?
The vagus nerve carries signals from digestive system and organs to the brain and vice versa
What is the parasympathetic control?
The parasympathetic nervous system is responsible for the body’s rest and digestion response when the body is relaxed, resting, or feeding. The parasympathetic nervous system decreases respiration and heart rate and increases digestion.
What are the Meditation Sessions?
The Meditation Sessions are a month-long meditation journey designed for youth workers by the NYCI National Youth Health Programme in partnership with The Santuary.
Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday over four weeks, a short meditation will be sent to you via email, where you can join in from the comfort of your working space in your own time.
There are four themes for the Meditation Sessions:
Week 1: Tend and Befriend
Week 2: Gratitude
Week 3: Conscious Breathing
Week 4: Reconnect
