This educational tool and practice manual outlines an innovative new approach on how to transform hate in youth work settings. Focused on the youth worker, and their practice, it looks at self-awareness, taking a needs based approach, and building connections with young people though empathic listening.
We start from the conviction that hate and discrimination will not be changed by taking a punitive approach, and that being able to connect, and stay connected with young people who cause hurt is an important part of making real and lasting change.
Accompanying the manual is its companion, Beyond Hate, which is an activity resource that youth workers can use with young people to explore and transform hate in youth work settings.
This work was developed during a 2 year transnational project funded by Erasmus+ and DCYA’s under the LGBTI+ National Strategy capacity grants.
Training on Transforming Hate in Youth Settings, and on using these 2 resources, is available on request. Contact anne@nyci.ie
