NYCI Youth Arts Summer School: Circus Skills for Youth Workers runs Wed 27th to Fri 29th June in Castlebar, Co. Mayo
The National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI) – which represents organisations working with over 380,000 young people nationwide – is calling on youth workers, youth arts practitioners, volunteers and others working with young people from the NorthWest to join in its annual summer school.
The theme for this year’s event is “Circus Skills for Youth Workers” and it takes place from 27th-29th June in beautiful Lough Lannagh Holiday Village in Castlebar Co. Mayo.
Anne O’Gorman of the NYCI, said: “NYCI’s partnership with Mayo Sligo Leitrim Education and Training Board in developing a regional youth arts network for youth workers and youth arts practioners has been a really successful piece of work over the last 18 months. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the youth workers and volunteers of the NorthWest and hearing more about their work, and so am looking forward to spending 3 days learning how to incorporate circus skills into youth work. And I’m especially excited that we will be working against the spectacular backdrop of Mayo.
No previous experience necessary!
“This year we’re bringing together youth workers, volunteers and youth arts practitioners to look at new skills for delivering creative, physical activities from youth circus – juggling, balancing, plate spinning and so on, exploring how they help us meet our youth work objectives, and developing the confidence to use them.
“If you are looking for more ways to bring non competitive physical group activities with a creative slant to them into your work with young people then make sure to book your place and join us in Castlebar!’ concluded Ms O’Gorman.

Participants will work on various aspects of circus activities including how to make equipment with your young people over the 3 days and the subsided cost (including accommodation and meals) for each is: €210 for members of NYCI and €240 for non members.
