International Men’s Health Week 2025 runs from Monday, 9th until Sunday, 15th of June. Men’s Health Week is an opportunity to focus on Men’s overall health and wellbeing and equip them with the tools and confidence to prioritise their health.
The theme for this year’s week is ‘Shoulder-to-Shoulder: Connecting for Health,’ and is a chance to shed light on preventable health issues that affect men and encourage them to make healthier choices, and support early action when a problem does arise.
Men are more likely to die younger, delay seeking help, and face chronic conditions that can often be prevented. Men’s Health Week provides an opportunity to change that.
The National Youth Health Programme (NYHP) at NYCI offers a range of resources and training opportunities that aim to improve the overall health and well-being of young people, youth workers, and those working with young people across Ireland.
Mental Health:
Your Wellbeing Hub:
The NYHP firmly believes that if you care for those providing support, those whom they care for will also reap the rewards. The Wellbeing Hub has been designed with you in mind. You cannot pour from an empty cup; that is why self-care is an invaluable tool. The Wellbeing Hub is home to a variety of activities, such as meditation sessions in conjunction with The Sanctuary, and wellbeing seminars, delivered by Gerry Hussey of SoulSpace. The NYHP also offers a supportive online space, ‘How is the YOU doing in Youth Work?’ offering workers and volunteers the opportunity to stop for a moment and take stock. For more information, or to register a space for you and your team, please click here. Finally, last year, the NYHP relaunched the series ‘Building Blocks for Wellbeing’, which is a 9-part series that explores a variety of topics with influential individuals who are flourishing in their field. Topics include trauma-informed practice, the impact of effective communication, mindfulness in youth work, a mindful approach to technology, and compassion and gratitude.
Youth Mental Health Signposting Tool:
The Youth Mental Health Signposting tool was developed by the NYHP in 2023, and aims to provide young people, parents, caregivers, and those working with young people with reliable and up-to-date information on where to access supports and services at both the local and national level for a variety of mental health issues. To access the signposting tool, and your local supports, please click here.
Stay Safe Online: Empowering Young Minds Against Cyberbullying
The NYHP recently launched a new resource: Stay Safe Online: Empowering Young Minds Against Cyberbullying, which was developed in response to conversations with youth workers across the island of Ireland in relation to cyberbullying and its impact on young people. Cyberbullying can have a profound impact on the mental well-being of young people. This resource was designed to empower youth workers, parents, guardians, and caregivers with the knowledge to support young people, spot the signs of cyberbullying, and stop cyberbullying in its tracks, so young people can reclaim the digital space as a place of connection, not harm.
MindOut 2.0:
Promoting Social and Emotional Wellbeing: A programme for young people in youth work settings. MindOut is a 2-day interactive training course developed to support the social, emotional, and mental well-being of young people. This programme focuses on the development of 5 core competencies for social and emotional learning: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship management, and responsible decision-making. All participants will receive a copy of the MindOut 2.0 resource pack. For inquiries, contact brid.collins@nyci.ie.
Sexual Health:
An Introduction to Youth Sexual Health Promotion:
This e-learning is a building block to strengthen youth workers’ capacity in supporting young people to develop their sexual health. Sexual health is a major component of a young person’s health and well-being. This course explores this, as well as behaviours, attitudes, norms, relationships, and practices that are developed during adolescence. It is vital that, where young people are interacting, they are provided the opportunity to receive good sexual health education and the tools they need to develop healthy relationships. Relationship Education and sexuality wellbeing in the youth Work Sector e-learning:
This e-learning is brought to you by the NYHP in partnership with the HSE Sexual Health programme. This e-learning is a stepping-stone to building the capacity of youth organisations and youth workers to develop, implement, and evaluate sexuality and education programmes. To access, click here.
Addressing Consent and Pornography with Young People:
This interactive two-day training programme is designed to equip Youth Workers and others supporting Young People with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to address the complex topics of consent and pornography with young people. By exploring the interconnections between the issues, participants will gain a deeper understanding of their impact on young people’s relationships, well-being, and decision-making. The training combines current research, legal considerations, and practical strategies to promote best practices in supporting young people to navigate these challenges. For inquiries, contact KevinOD@nyci.ie
B4U Decide:
This is a two-day interactive course aiming to support the development of young people’s social and emotional core competencies regarding their sexual health. Youth Workers will gain the confidence and capacity to support the young people to develop key skills in how they think and feel about themselves and others, and how they can deal with the challenges and stresses of life. These skills are collectively known as the social and emotional competencies. Skills explored include relationship management, decision making, and self-awareness. For inquiries, contact brid.collins@nyci.ie or kevinod@nyci.ie.
Sense and Sexuality Manual:
This support manual was designed to provide youth organisations with a comprehensive framework within which to address the issue of sexuality and sexual health with young people in a holistic manner. To download a copy, click here.
