Since the prize’s inception in 2008, the European Parliament in collaboration with the ‘Foundation of the International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen’, invite young people from all EU Member States to submit projects run by and for youth that illustrate an active participation in the development of Europe.
Applications are welcomed from groups with members aged between 16 and 30, who are working on projects with a European element. The prize is awarded to projects that promote European and international understanding, foster the development of shared sense of European identity and integration and to groups that serve as role models for young people living in Europe – offering practical examples of Europeans living together as one community.
Winners from each Member State will be nominated by national juries and will then go on to represent their country at an event in Aachen, Germany in May 2021 where the award ceremony will take place, depending on the situation.
Three winning projects will be chosen, with €7,500 for the first prize, €5,000 for the second and €2,500 for the third.
