Youth Council urges young people to register to vote

Deadline is next Tuesday September 15th- Youth Council advises young people that there is still time to register to vote

The National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI) is urging young people to have their voice heard and register to vote in the upcoming referendum on the Lisbon Treaty on October 2nd.

If you are eligible and wish to cast your vote there is still time to register. Any young person who is currently over 18 years of age can apply for inclusion on the supplementary register up until next Tuesday, September 15th. This also applies to a person of any age not on the register currently and residing in Ireland. However you must be an Irish citizen as only they can vote in referenda.

The relevant form (RFA2) can be obtained from your local authority or can be downloaded from http://www.lisbontreaty2009.ie/lisbon_treaty_register_to_vote.html. This form must then be completed and brought to a local Garda station to be witnessed and stamped and I.D. will be required. In addition for those who are registered in another part of the country and would like to vote at their current location on October 2nd they need to complete an RFA3 form which is also available online.

“We would encourage young people to register and to go out and vote in the upcoming referendum. It is your democratic right and a great opportunity to shape who and how decisions are made locally that impact on your life and that of your community,” stated James Doorley, Assistant Director at NYCI.
