“For Youth by Youth” Conference
The National Youth Council of Ireland’s “For Youth by Youth” conference took place in the European Union House on September 5th. The focus of this youth event was to consult on the New European Youth Strategy proposed by the EC at http://www.international.youth.ie/index.php?id=33.
A new strategy for European Youth Policy will be adopted by the Youth Ministers from the member states of the European Union in November. This youth event was an opportunity for young people from all over Ireland to influence the strategy and was attended by young people and youth workers from across Ireland, representatives from the EU Commission Offices in Ireland; the OMCYA, the European Economic and Social Committee and the European Youth Forum.
Eight workshops took place on the day, covering the fields of action in the strategy and the chapter in the strategy on youth work. The results of these workshops were relayed by three youth participants attending the Swedish EU Youth Presidency Event http://www.se2009.eu/en/meetings_news/2009/9/12/conference_on_the_future_eu_cooperation_in_the_youth_field.
