Youth organisations across Ireland receive funding for collaborative arts projects

Seventeen youth organisations across Ireland have been awarded €58,000 in total through the Artist in Youth Work Scheme run by the National Youth Council of Ireland’s Youth Arts programme. There are two awards under this scheme, the Artist in Youth Work Residency and the Youth Arts Development Award.

The National Youth Council of Ireland’s Vote at 16 campaign group will meet with the Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Constitution tomorrow (January 13th) to urge the Government to reduce the voting age.

Launch of unique resource to break down barriers for young people

The National Youth Council of Ireland is launching a unique diversity toolkit entitled “Access All Areas” tomorrow (Thursday, December 17th) at 4pm. The resource will be launched by Eddie D’Arcy, President of NYCI in the MACRO Resource Centre, One Green Street, Dublin 1.

Government introduces savage cuts to most vulnerable young people in the Budget

The National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI) opposes the slashing of Jobseeker’s Allowance to a paltry €100 for young people aged 20 to 21 and €150 to those between 22 to 24 who are unemployed. These cutbacks are more severe than proposed in the McCarthy report and we believe it is a misguided and short-sighted policy that will do nothing for young people and the economy.

Cuts to excise duty on alcohol detrimental to Ireland’s young people

The recent decision by Government in the Budget to reduce the excise duty on alcohol is a regressive step and will only serve to potentially endanger the lives of young people and increase accessibility. We believe the arguments used for the cut of cross border shopping and increased tax revenue from alcoholic products are incorrect and short sighted.

Youth Delegate to Copenhagen Climate Conference

Senan Gardiner is representing NYCI at the 15th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP15) taking place in Copenhagen from the 7th to the 18th of December, 2009.
