As part of the permanent tsb Foróige youth citizenship awards, Foróige is offering youth groups undertaking a citizenship project the chance to profile their group, project and community on a national television show to be aired on TV3.

Seventeen youth organisations across Ireland have been awarded €58,000 in total through the Artist in Youth Work Scheme run by the National Youth Council of Ireland’s Youth Arts programme. There are two awards under this scheme, the Artist in Youth Work Residency and the Youth Arts Development Award.

Cuts to excise duty on alcohol detrimental to Ireland’s young people

The recent decision by Government in the Budget to reduce the excise duty on alcohol is a regressive step and will only serve to potentially endanger the lives of young people and increase accessibility. We believe the arguments used for the cut of cross border shopping and increased tax revenue from alcoholic products are incorrect and short sighted.

The National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI) opposes the slashing of Jobseeker’s Allowance to a paltry €100 for young people aged 20 to 21 and €150 to those between 22 to 24 who are unemployed. These cutbacks are more severe than proposed in the McCarthy report and we believe it is a misguided and short-sighted policy that will do nothing for young people and the economy.

Youth Council opposed to youth unemployment payment cuts

The National Youth Council of Ireland is opposed to proposals to cut jobseekers allowance for young people under 25 because it is a misguided and short-sighted policy that will do nothing for young people and the economy. Ireland has the 2nd highest youth unemployment in Western Europe, with 1 in 4 young men between 18 and 24 out of work. NYCI is calling for a plan of investment and stimulus to get young people back into education, training and work, not a programme of cuts and austerity.

Young people are ‘CUT-OUT’ for justice

To celebrate One World Week (OWW) young people from across Ireland are coming together on Saturday (November 21st) to show they are cut-out for justice. At the event, life size cut-outs of young people facing injustice will be on display at Irish Aid’s Volunteering & Information Centre from 11am.
