BeLonG To

BeLonG To is an organisation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered (LGBT) young people, aged between 14 and 23.

Weekly groups are held for 14-23 year olds in Outhouse (Dublin's LGBT community centre), at 105 Capel St, Dublin 1, every Sunday at 3.30.

BeLonG To grew out of a youth group called OutYouth, which had been running on and off, on a voluntary basis for years. Though the volunteers were very dedicated and kindly offered a huge amount of their own time to helping other LGBT young people, it was decided that a full-time Youth Worker should be employed. A discussion involving OutYouth, OUThouse, Gay Men's Health Project, Gay Switchboard Dublin, HIV Strategies, Parents' Support, Union of Students of Ireland, National Lesbian and Gay Federation and The City of Dublin Youth Services Board was held in 2001 and the idea for BeLonG To was born. Two years later, in March 2003, BeLonG To was set up, with lovely Michael Barron as its Youth Worker.

Since then, the project has been working with LGBT young people, providing them with a safe, relaxed, comfortable environment, where they can make friends with other young people in similar situations and find support, inclusion, acceptance and social justice. They also have the option of one-to-one support and access to information on education, health and legal services.
